I’m worried that I would get there and they wouldn’t have my reservation or something would get screwed up. Anyone had experience with hotel reservations in Tokyo booked through hotels.com?
Is it safe to make hotel reservations throught hotels.com for Tokyo?

You can book hotels safely over the Internet. I have found good pricing at spincitytravel.com. I believe they work with hotels.com

hotels.com has been around for a long time, normally speaking if you have a reservation through them you have a reservation.
From my personal experience, I usually get a better hotel rate booking directly with the hotel.
Is it safe yes, is it the cheapest, maybe so, maybe not, check with the hotels.com price then check with the actual hotel’s price.

I think the big online hotel booking websites are very good and trustworthy. Hotels.com , Cheaperthanhotels.com , Oribitz.com – they are all good.
Another tip is to make sure they have customer service in countries you are visiting in English. http://www.cheaperthanhotels.com has this.
Being trustworthy also requires prices to be guaranteed to be the lowest. Check out the guarantees and ability to sort alternatives so that you get good value.
